With a focus on African experiences, the hub analyses patterns of continued abuse by state and security actors, as well as the weakening of institutions tasked with oversight and accountability. It also considers the role of civil society and civic engagement in challenging these trends.

The hub is oriented toward identifying practical responses. This includes strengthening accountability mechanisms, supporting human rights defenders and addressing the gap between commitments to justice and their implementation. It places particular emphasis on promoting political will, institutional capacity and sustained public engagement.
